Description

The primary purpose of the Master of Theological Studies degree is to equip persons with broad-based foundations for life and ministry. Students are required to complete 60 credit hours with a GPA of 2.5 or better.  This program is not intended for those who are proceeding to pastoral ministry. 

Entrance Requirements

Those students intending to enter practical professional ministry, who are taking the M.T.S. with a specialization other than Research, should have:

  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.5 or better (75% average).
  2. Courses in English Composition, English Literature, and Speech (Communications) are strongly recommended.
  3. Courses in general Arts and Sciences.

Graduation Requirements

The successful completion of 60 credit hours of studies with a GPA of no less than 2.5.

Goals

  • Upon completion of the Master of Theological Studies track, graduates should:
  • Be able to explain the biblical storyline and have a broad understanding of the content of the Bible.
  • Be able to interpret accurately the meaning and significance of the biblical text using the English Bible.
  • Be able to communicate effectively the message and relevance of the biblical text to diverse audiences using the English Bible.
  • Be able to minister effectively in the church at a non-preaching/teaching pastoral level.
  • Be able to interpret the cultural context in which they live so as to relate the message of the Bible to that context in an appropriate way.
  • Be actively involved in spiritual formation on both individual and corporate levels.
  • Possess a competent overview of theology from biblical, historical and systematic perspectives.
  • Be able to engage moral, ethical and biblical issues from a thoughtful and biblically based theological perspective [Be able to think biblical and articulate that thinking about moral, ethical, biblical and theological issues].
  • Be able to articulate the nature of the church from both a historical and theological perspective.
